IT WAS seventh time lucky for Andy Eggo (pictured) yesterday as he finally claimed the island title.

A see-saw final against Danny Blondel went all the way to the 36th hole and the new champion admitted that he could not watch as his L'Ancresse club-mate putted for birdie to take the match to extra holes.

However, the 15-footer did not drop and Eggo could put the disappointment of six previous final defeats firmly behind him.

'I played with Danny in the Brymay and he played so well then that I knew it would be tough today,' Eggo said.

'Danny is one of the better island players we have and his ball striking is phenomenal. It was always going to be difficult to win.'

The biggest lead either player had was just two holes and they were all square at lunch.

But the pivotal moment came on the 35th hole where Eggo chipped his second to within six feet and holed the putt to edge ahead before halving the last in pars.
