'Greens' cash in?

GUERNSEY'S promotion in the world cricket rankings could help towards winning an estimated extra $50,000 of ICC funding a year.

Promotion to the Division Six tournament in Singapore in August has won them an ICC Global One Day International ranking of 38.

The new chief executive officer of the Guernsey Cricket Board, Mark Latter (pictured), declined to state how much exactly the GCB receives in funding annually from the ICC.

However, he did indicate that they currently receive somewhere in the region of $200,000 annually and that due to their new ranking, among other factors, this could go up significantly.

'The whole point of the funding is to improve the infrastructure on and off the pitch to ensure the longevity of the pathway we've chosen to take in the World Cricket League.'

Latter was keen to stress that all of the funding that they receive goes straight into cricket on the island and that the GCB has recently been recognised as a non-profit organisation by the Guernsey Income Tax office.

Latter also pointed out that they have a 'huge' wage bill necessary to administer Guernsey cricket.
