WITHOUT some of their best players - most notably Scott Romeril and Alice Loveridge - Guernsey were always going to find it tough going at the Commmonwealth Championships in Glasgow.

But GTTA president Derek Webb, along with the men's and women's team captains, left Scotland not complaining about the results.

'We competed well,' said Webb.

'That shows that the development programme under the guidance of development officer Becks O'Keefe was working and even with the loss of some of our top players we are still able contenders in these prestigious events.'

With no segregation in the first stage groups, results were predictable with the men's team playing England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the women against Singapore, Northern Ireland and New Zealand. But this provided a useful warm up for the second stage groupings which determined final rankings.

In the second stage the men were up against Jersey, Mauritius, Malta and Isle of Man and claimed wins over Malta and Isle of Man before just losing out 3-2 to a strong Jersey contingent, placing them 15th overall.
