VALE REC have beaten the opposition and are the first local club to confirm an entry into a county cup competition next season.

A number of clubs have stated that they are interested in playing in UK competitions next campaign in a bid to make themselves more attractive propositions.

The newly reformed Guernsey Athletics announced that they are in the process of entering the Hampshire Cup, while it is understood Bels are looking to take part in the Dorset Cup and St Martin's are also looking towards the mainland for matches and made a bid to play in the FA Vase.

However, Rec's new coach and former island boss Phil Corbet said their participation in the Somerset Senior Cup had nothing to do with what other clubs are up to.

'The decision was made in the best interest of Vale Rec,' he said.

'We were looking to do it the season before. We're hopeful that it will help our cause.

'When I was the island coach I saw the benefits of playing in the South and West Counties Championship.'
