AN OUTDOOR sculpture made of scaffolding, an earthwork made by digger and a giant photomontage – this year's CFE art and design students' final year show is on a different scale than previously seen.

The department's new Delancey Campus has clearly had a massive impact on the students and their ideas have been bigger than ever.

'The move from Grange House has had an effect. We have much bigger rooms here, there's more space, more light and we're delighted with how things have turned out,' explained programme manager Martin Purvis. 'The journey travelled by all our students has been fantastic and I think everybody's got a piece of work that's the best they've done. It's got the capability of being one of the best of the shows so far.'

Artist Richard Thomas, who works in art education at the Tate and at Sotheby's, was guest of honour at the show's opening and judged the Student of the Year award, which was won by Bretton Smeed.

Two new awards, for drawing and for portfolio development, were won by first-year student Jack Etheridge and Lana Nelson respectively.

The show, which is sponsored by Specsavers, is on display at the campus, housed in the former St Sampson's Secondary School, from 9am-9pm every day, and ends on Thursday. Entry is free.
