AMIR KHAN has confirmed he will come to Guernsey for October's Open Show - if Bradley Watson has a rematch with his brother Haroon.
After Ricky Hatton, Khan is undoubtedly the most high profile boxer in Britain.
Before turning professional he won silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics and next weekend he has his first world title fight against WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik.
And he was in the audience at Bury's Redcliff Civic Hall on Sunday afternoon to watch his younger brother Haroon, who himself is an outstanding prospect, stop Guernsey's Watson in the second round.
According to Watson's coach, Graham Guilbert, a rematch is on the cards at the next Beau Sejour Open Show on Saturday 25 October, and Amir Khan gave his word that he would be there.
'Amir Khan is coming over if Watson boxes Haroon,' said Guilbert yesterday.
On Saturday, having just flown in from Los Angeles, where he trains with his coach Freddie Roach at his world-renowned coach's Hollywood gym, Khan received a phone call from his old mentor Mick Jelley, who organised the weekend's show, asking him to come and meet the Guernsey boxers.
Within 30 minutes he was at his old gym in Bury and was incredibly down to earth and friendly with the visitors.
He also watched the show with Roach.
'He was chatting with us like he had known us for years,' said Guilbert.
'He's a very good ambassador for amateur boxing. Yesterday afternoon he was chatting to everyone at the show.
'Freddie Roach was there as well. He was nice.
