L'ANCRESSE are bringing out the big guns to meet Wheatlands in the Channel Islands final of the Hampshire Sevens on Sunday.

Having picked several players who play off five or six to get through the Guernsey final at La Grande Mare, team captain Steve Mahy has reverted to his policy of going for the best available on the club's home course.

The seven include the last three Guernsey champions in Andy Eggo, Garry McFarlane and Jack Mitchell, the last two island runners-up in Danny Blondel and Mahy, and two other experienced island stars Danny Bisson and Jamie Blondel.

Mahy (pictured) admitted that while it was hard to drop those who did the job so well at LGM, he felt the line-up to face Wheatlands was a 'no-brainer'.

'My top seven have all amassed experience over the years, whether in Murattis or in other matchplay events. They have all performed at the highest level in Channel Island golf.

'I have always stated that one or two may have an off day, but I just can't see more than three of them having bad days. If they play well, they will win.

'All the guys who weren't selected are very much part of a squad and I will pick a team to win a match.'
