Guernsey Velo Club has never been stronger with the best bunch of cyclists it has ever had, yet there are no cycling events in Aland.

The Sarnians bore that frustration as they travelled to Jersey for the inter-insular road race and resoundingly beat the home team.

The visitors had high hopes following the clean sweep in the time trial the week before and they did not disappoint as James McLaughlin won the seniors race and Guernsey finished in third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth and 10th places.

Alan Rowe and Ian Scholes completed a one-two in the veterans race with Ann Bowditch winning the women's event and LCF Development squad riders Alex Wilson and Phil Setters taking second and third places in the junior race.

The seniors event was over eight laps of the Watersplash circuit, the veterans, women and juniors over seven.
