Scoring error costs Jamie solo chance

JAMIE BLONDEL suffered horrendous luck on the first day when he was disqualified from the individual golf competition for signing for the wrong score.
In the scorer's hut, the L'Ancresse man (pictured) agreed to a hole score which was worse than what he had actually taken, but signed for his correct score, yet the rules saw his round of 80 discarded and he is no longer in the running for individual honours.
However, he continues to play as part of the team competition, in which an island's best three scores of the day are counted.
'It was one of those things. I have now just got to knuckle down and do my best for the team,' said Blondel, who took the disappointment very well.
His teammates were all sympathetic and feel that it was in his nature to go out and shoot some low numbers in the remaining rounds.
'What happened to Jamie was very unfortunate,' Sean Mills said.
'What is certain is that he will still be giving 100% for the team.
'I think after that he might now go out and try a few more attacking shots, which could benefit our overall score.'
The disqualification meant that Mills' 76, Danny Blondel's 77 and Steve Mahy's 81 all counted towards the team's first day score.
In the women's event, Jan Chamberlain has played extremely well to be inside the top 10 after two days, returning scores of 79 and 77 to place ninth.
Sue Wellfair was 17th thanks to two 85s while Julie Creed added a 92 to her opening 88 and Mandy Webber carded 90 to go with her opening 97.
