IT'S CONFIRMED - Heather Watson has achieved her first senior women's world ranking, in at 756.
The news was revealed by the World Tennis Association yesterday - a week after Watson's victory in the Aegon US$10k Pro-Series in Frinton.
Having successfully made it through three ITF Grade 1 senior women tournaments to qualify, Watson is over the moon with her ranking, which will open up so many new doors in her professional tennis career.
'The last few weeks have been tough, playing a lot of senior tournaments, but it has really paid off and I will be looking to move further up the international rankings in the coming months,' she said.
'With the grass court season now over and no more awkward bounces, if I continue to hit powerful shots and play my game well, I can take advantage of the hard court season, which suits my style of play.'
Her first senior tournament was the US$25k Jersey Open back in March when, having received a wild card into the first round, she beat Jade Curtis before being knocked out in the second round.
That was enough for her to pick up eight points towards her first senior ranking.
'This debut match gave her a tremendous amount of experience and confidence at this senior level,' said Heather's mother, Michelle.
