GUERNSEY overcame both Denmark and the weather to get off the mark in ICC European Under-17 Division One yesterday at Laurelvale.

The Sarnians claimed an emphatic 115-run victory under the Duckworth-Lewis method having racked up the highest total in the tournament so far.

Guernsey finished their 50 overs on 249 for eight, with Josh Kirk anchoring the innings with a patient half century to allow the lower middle order to add the impetus later on.

Glenn Le Tissier made 40 from 30 balls while Matthew Renouf (24 from 15) and Joe Alvarez (28 from 18) enjoyed themselves in the closing overs.

Guernsey were also helped by 41 extras.

With the rain clouds threatening, the Sarnians knew that they had to get through their overs quickly, with 20 needed to be completed in the Denmark innings for a result.

Le Tissier did a fine job opening with his off spin and claimed three wickets before rain forced the players from the field in the 15th over to give Denmark a sniff of a hope of escape.

However, play resumed and the Kirk brothers raced through their overs as Guernsey did enough to secure a memorable and convincing victory.

The other two matches were both abandoned without result.

In last night's Barclays Wealth Evening League Division One fixtures, there were comfortable wins for Rovers and St Saviour's.
