An oap couple were left without heating or cooking for six days after Guernsey Gas cut them off – because it did not like their kitchen cupboards.

Author Michael Milford, 71, and his wife Joan, 66, said their 'world was turned upside down' by the move.

'They returned on the Monday to repair the leak and tested our appliances. They informed us that our cooker, which they installed seven years ago, was in a dangerous position.

'They cut us off straight away, without warning, leaving us without heating and a cooker for almost a week.'

The engineer told the couple the cooker was too close to cupboards above it.

The incident, on Friday 3 April, only emerged this month after the couple made contact with the Guernsey Press because they are still so annoyed about their treatment.

Yet Guernsey Gas would not discuss it because to do so would be 'unprofessional'.

Mr and Mrs Milford, who have lived in their Paris Street home for 30 years, had to spend £518 installing a new electric cooker.
