JAN CHAMBERLAIN has reduced her handicap to a career-best three in winning the Royal Guernsey GC Ladies' Championship.

The 36-hole medal competition for the Canivet Trophy, sponsored by Toko, was held over two weeks and on the opening day she played a wonderfully steady round, scoring a gross 74 with 15 pars.

In the second round, despite what she felt was a rather poor start, she went on to card a gross 75 with birdies at the eighth and 12th and a magnificent eagle three at the 15th.

This was a very convincing win for Chamberlain (pictured_, who has hit her best form at this time, winning the Senior Ladies' Championship at La Grande Mare between the two rounds of the Royal Guernsey competition.

In second place for the Canivet Trophy was Sue Wellfair, grossing 160 for the two rounds, just ahead of Kay Mapley with 161.

The La Jaonneuse Trophy, also sponsored by Toko, for the best net score over the two rounds was won by Sonia Graham, who followed up her first round 72 with a 69 in the second round off her new handicap of 13.

Both rounds were very steady. Out and back in 43 in the first round, Graham played two better on each side in the second.

She was delighted with her win, reducing her handicap over the two rounds from 14 to 12.

In second place with 142 was Barbara Gilligan and in third on 143 was Cath Besant who, in the first round, had a superb net 66.
