THE most eagerly anticipated campaign in years for the Priaulx Cup gets under way at Blanche Pierre Lane tonight as North begin the defence of their title against St Martin's.

With Guernsey Athletics coming back into the top-flight after 46 years, the excessive transfer market movement over the summer along with the return of big name coaches Mac Gallienne at Rovers and Phil Corbet at Vale Rec, there has been a buzz of excitement ahead of the 2009-10 Senior County Division One season.

If North are going to retain the league silverware, a win over a St Martin's team, who themselves have title aspirations, will put them on the right path.

However, North coach Mick Le Prevost (pictured) is taking the game in his stride.

'It's always important and it doesn't matter who you play,' he said.

'I try to win every game. We'll prepare as usual and see where it gets us.'

Glyn Dyer, Kieran Mahon and Le Prevost's son, Alex, are all expected to play with all three returning from holiday.

The only injury issue for Le Prevost is with Darren Martin.

The North skipper picked up a mystery foot injury at the Island Games in Aland and it flared up again during pre-season training.

He will not feature this evening.
