JERSEY put Guernsey to the sword in Sunday's singles matches to retain the Junior Challenge Trophy at Grouville.

The visitors had given their hosts something of a shock in both the foursomes and four-balls on the first day of the inter-insular to trail just 5-3, but the Caesareans responded in clinical fashion the following morning as the Sarnians were allowed only a solitary half in the concluding singles.

'It was disappointing really,' said GJGC president Bill Le Huray.

'After the golf we played on Saturday, I thought we were going to give Jersey a bit of a run for their money, but in the singles Jersey just showed their class and exactly what they are made of.'

In the foursomes, there were comfortable wins for top Jersey pairing Sam Crenan and Chris Young as well as Guernsey captain Danny Carre and Sam Le Huray.

The other two matches were both close, but critically went the way of the hosts.

'They just had a bit more luck than us on the Saturday.

'In the morning we could have been, probably should have been, at least 2-all,' Le Huray said.

'Sam and Danny Carre played very solid golf to win their match while Tom Pattimore and Danny O'Brien lost the last in a match that could have gone either way.

'To be honest, we were a bit disappointed to have only a point on Saturday lunchtime.'

Guernsey did manage parity in the afternoon four-balls, though, and their two losses also went down to the final hole.
