EVEN with new blood in the ranks, Guernsey's drought in the seniors golf clash shows no sign of ending.

Jersey took their record to 11 consecutive wins in the Garenne Group Seniors Challenge Trophy inter-insular with an 11-4 win at Grouville.

Defending their crown on home turf at the Royal Jersey Golf Club, they went into the final day with a 4-1 lead.

But it was Guernsey who won the first singles point, with Rainer Schimek finishing two up against Caesarean seniors' champion George Kean.

Jersey then came through strong to collect wins from Bart McCarthy and Robbie Messervy, who both finished on the 14th green for 5 and 4 successes.

Richard Williamson added another point to the leading tally with a further 5 and 4 victory and Terry Smith was next to finish, following an excellent match with seniors newcomer David Warr, to bring Jersey to a total that would ensure they at least shared victory.

However, Jersey didn't stop there and wins duly came from Geoff Ramskill, finishing 2 up, as well as Mick Le Feuvre, who took a 4 and 3 victory, and Mike Street, with a 3 and 1 triumph, to ensure they had won the trophy outright before Pat McKeary and Steve Turvey came in with late wins.

Jersey captain Clive Dobin said that local knowledge had been important.
