The Sarnian overcame Latvian Alina Jerjomina 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) to progress to the main draw.

Watson now faces home player and No. 2 seed Valerie Tetreault in the first round.

The 21-year-old Canadian is currently at a career-high world ranking of 139 and has won three tournaments in America this summer.
