28-year-old record broken
THE island short course breaststroke record, which has stood for the past 28 years and was set by Andrew Robilliard in 1981, has finally been broken by Beau Sejour Barracuda Thomas Hollingsworth in the Specsavers Island Championships, hosted by the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association.
THE island short course breaststroke record, which has stood for the past 28 years and was set by Andrew Robilliard in 1981, has finally been broken by Beau Sejour Barracuda Thomas Hollingsworth in the Specsavers Island Championships, hosted by the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association.
Hollingsworth finished in 1-06.26 to smash the last of the breaststroke records, having set the 50m and 200m earlier in the year.
His time in the 100m backstroke of 57.85 was also a Commonwealth Games qualifying time.
Hollingsworth finished first in all five of his events before heading back to university in Norwich.
Also placing first in all five of her events was Kristina Neves of the Guernsey Swimming Club.
Swimming in the 12/13 age group she produced the fastest times of the day overall in the 100m IM, 100m fly and 100m freestyle.
She was very close to dipping under the elusive 60 second barrier in the freestyle where she recorded an impressive 1-00.22.
She finished well ahead of the field in the 100m butterfly with1-06.37 and got the touch from Lotte Parfit in the 100m IM in1-09.41.
Parfit was fastest of the day in the 100m backstroke in an excellent time of 1-07.70 with her sister Victoria swimming the fastest of the women in 100m breaststroke in 1-18.08. Victoria won all of the events in the 16-and-over age group with Lotte winning four in the 14/15 age group. Nicole Hewlett was the victor in the 100m breaststroke in 1-21.55.
In the youngest age group Barracuda Hannah Rosumek excelled, winning all five of her events.
