ST JACQUES' rise continues as they secured a dramatic last-minute win over league leaders VB Sharks thanks to kicker Tom Chamberlain on Sunday.

A couple of weekends ago, Saints tasted success at United Banks to record their first away victory over the Jersey side in more than 20 years.

Finding themselves one point behind Sharks at 7-6 going into the final minute at the KGV, fly-half Chamberlain was the hero as he put over an extremely difficult penalty from wide out on the right to take the honours.

'I could not bear to watch Tom take the kick to win the game,' said St Jacques coach Chris Griffiths.

'It was an impossible position considering the cross wind and, although I know Tom is a great kicker, I thought it was 50/50 at best.

'The roar of the crowd, though, told me he'd got it.'

The day before Sharks had defeated Guernsey Seconds 41-15 and St Jacques knew they had a challenge on their hands.

The first half was very tight with neither team threatening to score a try.

Both sides also missed penalty attempts at goal with Chamberlain hitting the crossbar from the halfway line.

The half ended 0-0.
