GUERNSEY is looking to enter a team in the indoor cricket national league.
With the island's leagues now up and running at the new £1m. Indoor Cricket Guernsey at Hougue du Pommier, the centre's CEO, Jason Shambrook, exclusively told the Guernsey Press yesterday that they were keen on joining the Indoor Cricket England League from next season.
It has already been confirmed that Guernsey will play in the 2011 Indoor Cricket World Cup in South Africa.
'It's something that we've talked about, but we've not spoken to anyone from Indoor Cricket England yet,' said Shambrook (pictured).
'If we can attract some sponsorship, we could go over a couple of weekends from next season and take part.
'It gives the players a chance to play at a higher level and we've got the World Cup in 2011, so this is a logical step for that.'
There are currently six sides in the men's national league: Canary Wharf, Wolverhampton Jamia, Nottingham, Derby, Ipswich and Bristol.
The 2009 World Cup is also taking place at the moment in Brisbane, Australia.
Guernsey sent a side to the 2007 World Cup when it was held in Bristol.
The Sarnians had no experience of the game then and Shambrook believes Guernsey will be competitive in the national league and at the next World Cup.
