MATT PATCH couldn't be happier.

It was the surprise transfer of the summer when the 31-year-old left Vale Rec, a club where he has spent the last 10 years, to join Rovers.

Not many people saw it coming but Patch (pictured) said he is delighted to find himself down at Port Soif where there is something of a revolution going on with its much-vaunted 'Three Year Plan'.

Well-respected former North, St Martin's and Rangers coach Mac Gallienne is on board and their aim is change from being the league's whipping boys into a top-three club within three years.

Along with signing Patch, Rovers also picked up former North goalkeeper Richard Davey and they brought back striker Jamie Ferbrache.

'I'm really enjoying it and there's a great atmosphere at Rovers at the moment,' said Patch.

'It's good to be around a group of players that are all keen to learn and get better. Everyone is really positive from the coaches down to the players.

'There's nothing negative.'

The move came about due to Patch taking his 11-year-old step son, Josh, to Rovers' minis on a Saturday morning.

Junior coach Jez Robin tapped him up and after some deliberation, Patch put pen to paper.
