YOUNG Guernsey rugby star Luke Jones scored the first try on his debut for Hampshire A under-16's in their victory over Sussex on Sunday.
The 15-year-old La Mare de Carteret High student, who is a product of the Guernsey Rugby Academy, was picked for the county after impressing in trials earlier this season.
And after being selected to start against Sussex in Winchester, the home side soon found themselves down 12-0.
This was until centre Jones scored a 30m try just before half-time, which kick-started his team's resurgence.
They went on to win 27-12.
'He's pleased because it put him on the score sheet and everyone remembers who scored first try in a match,' said Jones' mother Tina.
Jones paid credit to his coaches and the Guernsey Rugby Academy.
'I'm really grateful to Steve Roussel and Robert Sinclair, who have been my coaches since I was little,' he said.
