The island's leading boxer pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court at the end of October to possessing class A and class B drugs and was fined £1,000. The 32-year-old Jennings committed the offences at the end of August.

Jennings was up in front of the Western Counties ABA disciplinary panel in Bristol last week and the area body announced that they would continue the suspension until the new year. Jennings will also have to submit to any random drug tests that may be requested by the ABA.

The Western Counties took into account his previously known good character in and out of the ring, that there has been no evidence of any previous use of any banned substances, his punishment by the Magistrate's Court and his intention to continue in amateur boxing after his 34th birthday to become a coach and give something back to the sport he enjoys.

Jennings was unable to be reached yesterday but the chairman of the Amalgamated Boys' Club, Dave Hadlington, is pleased that the matter is now closed.

'We'd like to a draw a line under the matter,' he said.
