Joshes band together to celebrate victories

IF ONE talented twin does not get you, the other just might.

And so it proved in the latest Deutsche Bank Junior Banded table tennis tournament at the GTTA Centre at Hougue du Pommier.

With Jack Totty having dominated the band one competition last month and his opponent in that final, Lawrence Stacey, away in Romania at a Euro training camp, Totty was considered favourite to repeat his title-winning performance.

However, it was turn of the other Stacey twin, Joshua, to face Totty in the final and this time there was to be no dream result for the previous winner.

In a one-sided final, Stacey took the title in three straight games, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7.

In band two, it was Joshua Butler's turn to shine as he reached the final with straight game wins over Rachel Harm and Thomas Ruff.

He then faced the fast growing talent of Alex Robinson in the final.

Robinson had also secured straight game wins over Luke Le Tissier and Sam Clark to reach the final, but found the in-form Butler just too difficult an opponent and went down 11-6, 11-8, 12-10.
