PHIL CORBET has weighed into the 'football on Boxing Day' debate to give the Guernsey Football Association an earful.

The Vale Rec boss (pictured) watched his side earn themselves a good victory over Sylvans at the Corbet Field on Saturday. But the first thing he wanted to talk about after the match was the Boxing Day row.

The GFA has come under fire for having a full schedule of Division One games this Saturday that has Rec away at Rangers while their reserves are also in action as they play Centrals.

In response, the GFA's fixtures secretary Garry Cortez questioned why the clubs had left it so late to complain after the fixtures list was released in July and that there were no negative feedback to the idea at the time.

However, Corbet said that Vale Rec have proof that they contacted the GFA after the list was made public, saying that they were not pleased about playing the day after Christmas.

'When are the GFA going to tell the truth?' asked Corbet. 'We wrote to them in July. We're not happy about that. We're losing players left, right and centre. We let them know a week after the fixtures came out.

'We're far from happy, but we'll play.'
