ANDY CORNFORD has denied he is shaking up the Guernsey senior cricket squad, but he will be naming some younger players.

The new island head coach recently took over the reins from Dave Hearse, who moved upstairs to become head of selectors.

Cornford (pictired) declined yesterday to name the younger players he is interested in, but said that he and Hearse will soon be announcing a winter training squad and it will include a few new faces.

'Part of my job is to continue to look forward and to make sure we don't sit on our laurels,' he said.

'We've got a lot of cricket coming up and the commitment required means that we're going to need to increase the player pool if we are going to keep being competitive. We also want to get some exposure for some of our younger players.'

There have been some criticisms levelled at the management in the past that it seems easy to get into the senior island squad but difficult to get out of it.

Cornford denied that this is the case.
