Airport could close by day while runway is worked on

NO-FLY days could be introduced when the runway is upgraded.

'Some initial planning discussions have taken place with airport users over the potential closure of the runway for complete days on a number of occasions,' said airport director Colin Le Ray.

'These closures will allow more substantial construction tasks to be undertaken where they could not be carried out in overnight shifts.

'The intention would be to provide a long period of notice of specific closure periods to minimise any disruption to the aircraft operators' timetable.'

But the idea has not gone down well with airlines, who have yet to be consulted formally.
