TWO rugby promotion rivals go head to head at Foote's Lane this afternoon.

Guernsey host a Guildford outfit which has virtually the same record as Simon Sharrott's side, with both having won nine of the 13 games they have played. Guernsey sit one place above the visitors by virtue of a slightly better points difference.

The home captain knows that his troops will have to get out of the blocks immediately and not commit the early errors that they did in last week's dramatic late victory over Weybridge Vandals.

'Guildford, as we know, are a very competitive outfit and as you can see from their league position they obviously have set out the same goals as us in terms of promotion,' Sharrott (pictured) said.

'They have a strong tight five, much like Vandals, and this will mean we will have to perform for the full 80 minutes.

'We have spoken as a squad and cannot make the same mistakes as we did in the first half against Vandals.

'We must set our platform and really work hard for each other in both attack and defence.'
