Outstanding Lewis is a five-time champion

MEMBERS of the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club had a string of successes throughout the age groups in this year's Channel Island Championships, held at Les Quennevais Pool, in Jersey.

Sixteen-year-old Joshua Lewis produced one of the most outstanding performances by winning nine gold medals in the 16+ age group – his times in five of them being the fastest of the day making him the Channel Island champion in the men's 100 and 200 individual medley, and the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke – the shortest distance being a new championship record of 32.05sec.

CI titles also went to Ian Hubert (pictured), who dominated the Butterfly events to top the rostrum in the 50, 100 and 200 metre distances.

Teammate Jonathon Le Noury claimed two titles, the 400 and 1,500 freestyle, and although both boys were outside their personal bests they were satisfied with their early season performances.

Nineteen-year-old Robyn Le Friec, also a butterfly specialist, took the women's 100m butterfly title in a time of 1-05.72, just outside the record set in 1988 by Janine Taylor of Tigers.
