GUERNSEY have been handed a golden opportunity to reach the final of the Carlsberg FA National League System Cup with a home tie in the semi-final.

In yesterday's draw, which caught Guernsey officials on the hop, they were pulled out to play the Dorset Premier League, who knocked out Jersey by a single goal, on a date that has yet to be agreed.

The other semi-finalists in the competition, whose prize is to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup, are the Yorkshire Old Boys League and either Liverpool County Premier League or Cambridgeshire County Premier League, who play each other this Saturday.

The draw brought a smile to the faces of officials at the GFA after a day in which they learned that the Hertfordshire Senior County League, who Guernsey beat 3-2 at the weekend, had launched an attack on the Vale Rec pitch.

What has seemed to have griped Herts, whose motto is 'Success with Dignity' was the state of the Corbet Field surface because they have been highly critical of it in their match report on their website.
