Vale Rec 2, North 2

THERE was no love lost between North and Vale Rec as the Grand Fort Road derby ended in a stalemate last night.

The bad blood stemmed from a challenge late in the game on Scott Bougourd by Rec's James Coquelin, for whom the words 'combative midfielder' could have been invented.

Young Bougourd (pictured) has been a bright spark in North's nightmare season and he went down heavily when Coquelin slid in on him right in front of the main stand with five minutes left.

It was the second time that the two players had clashed.

Both sets of players circled each other for some handbags while Bougourd was in need of some treatment on his ankle.

Things got even more heated when North's big first aid man, John Cortez, ran on and contact seemed to take place between him and Coquelin and Rec's captain Ross Elliott.

North's tempers were not helped when referee Matt Walsh, who has a reputation of leniency, booked Coquelin when they were expecting him to be sent off.
