Russell makes the most of his first UK competition

WILL RUSSELL and Kristina Neves were the stars of the Guernsey Swimming Club team at the Hampshire County Bagcats Championships.

The six-strong group returned with an excellent 18 personal bests, 13 first places and two seconds from 54 races in Waterlooville, but there was no doubting the outstanding performers.

Competing for the first time in the UK was the youngest of the team, nine-year-old Russell. He had some outstanding swims and in every race bar one had huge personal best times.

The most impressive race was the 200m individual medley in which he was swimming with boys older than him and placed first in his heat with an amazing 22-second personal best time.

Russell was crowned Hampshire County Bagcats champion for his age.

Neves had a very good weekend with six championship records and was crowned 13-year-old Hampshire County Bagcat champion.
