The sensei of the Jiu Jitsu Guernsey Club was recently given the honour at a grading session in Beverly, Yorkshire.

After third dan, the accolades are handed out as more of an honour than passing an assessment.

Fifth dans lose their black belt and are given a distinctive red and white belt instead.

'It was fantastic, but it was a big surprise,' said Leech, who by day works for Guernsey Electric.

'I wasn't expecting my fifth dan. It's not often that I'm lost for words.'
