Merriens ready for World Cup

WITH less than three weeks left before they fly Guernsey's flag in the World Cup at Warilla in New South Wales, Ian and Alison Merrien have settled nicely into a routine Down Under – although they confess they are missing their comfortable bed.

WITH less than three weeks left before they fly Guernsey's flag in the World Cup at Warilla in New South Wales, Ian and Alison Merrien have settled nicely into a routine Down Under – although they confess they are missing their comfortable bed.

'That's the one thing we are longing for,' confessed Ali, who is ranked number two in the world.

'We are loving everything else, but the beds here are a bit hard.'

The jet-setting Sarnians are dealing with the inevitable pangs of home-sickness by keeping in touch with family and friends through Skype and the internet, and last weekend even cooked themselves a roast dinner on a borrowed stove.
