THE first steps have been taken to redevelop the former St Peter Port School.

Students from the College of Further Education's Brock Road site could be in by September 2011 – if the Education Department secures funding for the project when it is taken to the States later this year.

Initial planning permission has been granted for a plan which will see all departments currently at Brock Road, including hair and beauty and the flexi-learning centre, the Youth Service and Guernsey Youth Theatre, move to a refurbished St Peter Port School building.

The proposals for short- to medium-term re-use were confirmed as one of the main capital priorities for the States in autumn last year.

As part of the education development plan, the department will eventually have a single CFE campus on the site.
