Alias - I'm Over Here

A bit Steeley Dan, but none the worse for it. Lyndon's familiar tones and some stunning lead work from brother Laurie requires repeated listening.

Teaspoonriverneck - Fuzzbomb

The mighty 'spoons went through a line-up change late last year. This catchy, dirty-riffed pleaser features former guitarist Jon Langlois and shows why they get the moshers down the front at gigs.

Asylum Seekas - Eyes On Me

The Seekas have been making hip-hop for 10 years but have many other influences bubbling under their lyrical prowess. This track jumps out and makes me want to check them out live. The lyrics are on the money.

My Last Victory - Veil For Venus

Currently ensconced in Brighton, the band play metal sounds with a hook that draws you in with every listen. The guitar shredding and chorus is addictive – a standout track.

Johndoes - Into The Blue

A busy live act in the 90s, reminds me of Del Amitri. Apparently the track was recorded live and is dedicated to local fishermen. Big sound, big chorus.

About An Hour - Heartbeat

Energetic pop punk with a definite 80s vibe is how the band describe themselves. I'd imagine this is a popular live track of theirs with followers. Air guitar alert!

Jamie Lee - Swan Song

An acoustic guitarist who needs to be seen to believe his skilful playing. A range of styles from classical, flamenco – a laidback cracker.

The Nelkons - Please Don't Go

The band play danceable rock with a bit of country and folk thrown in for good measure. This jaunty, folky song is a favourite live staple and benefits greatly from Jess Nash on fiddle.

I bet they love this down the Imp.

Wez Coomes - You're Not There

Wez takes his influences from the likes of Pearl Jam, Johnny Cash and Jeff Buckley, to name a few. Lo-fi acoustic. A bit John Martyn – had to turn up the track to hear what he was singing about, though.

D3uce - Her

A trio much missed on the live circuit after Eamon O'Neill's recent departure from the island. A song written by Eamon when he was a melancholy teenager. The combination of sax, violin and acoustic guitar is achingly beautiful.

Jodie Webber - Vanish Deeper

Jodie's strong and soulful vibrato kicks off the second CD with this poppy tune. It's no wonder she won the Specsavers Reach For a Star contest in 2008.

Archaeopteryx - Octobermoth

As if in complete contrast to the previous track, Archaeopteryx delivers some dark, moody sounds. Sounds like Boards of Canada crossed with Popul Vuh. Listen with the lights on.

The Tin Soldiers - I'm Coming Home

Now calling themselves The Half Day Fridays 'due to the fact that a London band called Tin Soldiers have recently landed a major record deal and we didn't want any confusion'. The track is in the band's live set. Prefer the live version.

Herd Deep - Z

More bleeps and experimental, ambient sounds. There is a lot thrown into the mix here and, at times, sounds like a soundtrack to a dystopian nightmare. Great stuff.

Mike Meinke - Apologies

Admittedly someone I have yet to catch live. The track is a soulful funky foot-tapper. Has a touch of Jack Johnson about it.

Five Across The Eyes - Bring Me The Head of Money Mayweather

Love the title. In the same camp as My Last Victory. Not my cup of tea but will find favour with the youth with the long hair, no doubt.

Rawcuz Crowz - When You Don't Come Home

Starts off sounding like old skool punk before the harmonica begins wailing. If this is what goes down in Alderney then I want to go there.

Theantics - Theantics

Theo Leworthy's initial love of the blues has taken him on to expand – this is the result. A bit Cat Stevens, a bit Donovan, and what's wrong with that?

The Usual Suspects - Last Tango

A favourite live act among the more discerning punter. You can't go wrong with the vocals of Sam McBride and guitar of Laurie Queripel. Mean, moody, magnificent.

Joe Byrne - Without Her

Indie-shoegazer Joe could easily have been involved with the C86 indie-twee pop movement. A little wayward but shows promise.

The Swallows - Little Tale

Guernsey's favourite ladyband tell a cautionary little tale of trying to get a man to care. Reminds me of The Modettes' Tonight. I like it!
