Visitors show determination to reach island for big gala
MANY swimmers beat the volcanic ash as the OCS 19th Open International Guernsey Masters Meet took place as scheduled over the weekend at Beau Sejour.
MANY swimmers beat the volcanic ash as the OCS 19th Open International Guernsey Masters Meet took place as scheduled over the weekend at Beau Sejour.
Although the numbers were naturally depleted because of flight restrictions, 88 competitors still took part in the event.
Some were forced to take drastic measures to arrive, including using trains and boats from all over the country.
Two of those who made it from the mainland were Terry Wright and Penny Webster, both from the King's Cormorants club in Surrey.
Wright cited the camaraderie and also the surroundings as some of the reasons why they both came back, after competing in the event previously.
