Fifth place for Ozard in first year at level

LUCY OZARD of the Phoenix Artistic Rollerskating Club rose to the challenge at the Youth British Solo Dance Championships in her first year at this level.

The 2010 championships were staged in Maidstone, Kent, and attracted 13 entries from around the UK, with the skaters being challenged to perform two compulsory dances and a freedance lasting two-and-a-half minutes.

Saturday saw the two compulsory dances being skated and although in the European Waltz Ozard demonstrated some excellent technique, she failed to impress the judges enough to place her in medal contention.

However, with an improved performance in the Keats Foxtrot she moved herself to within striking distance of the top places by having two of the judges placing her third at that stage of the competition.
