ANDY EGGO'S grip on the island title again looked on the verge of being shaken loose in a dramatic quarter-final with Mick Marley at L'Ancresse last evening.

The four-times title holder was in control for so much of the match that it seemed almost his right to go through to a semi-final against Jamie Blondel.

And just how many lives the 2009 champion needs to win this tournament a second year in succession is a question worth asking after his escape against Ross Wheeler in the opening round and now this, even more dramatic one.

Marley, who might have gone three up at eight but squandered the opportunity, then lost three holes on the bounce to be one down playing the short 12th.
