DANNY BLONDEL claimed his first island title yesterday, but it surely won't be his last.

The stylish 26-year-old (pictured) won an epic encounter with defending champion Andy Eggo on the 39th hole having not previously held the lead throughout the day.

But his sweet seven-iron tee shot straight over the pin down wind at the 190-yard third hole at L'Ancresse gave him an opportunity that he gratefully accepted.

His downhill putt of a little more than 12ft looked good from the moment it left the club and it found the dead centre of the cup.

Eggo still had an opportunity to match the two, but borrowed a touch too much on his 10-footer and Blondel could finally break into a smile.
