IT took them three attempts to get to Guernsey – then fog stopped them from leaving. But it was all worth it for the Morris family.
After their attempts to reach the island were repeatedly thwarted by the Icelandic volcano eruption earlier in the year, Pauline and Brian Morris, 74, and Irene Wright 90, finally managed to have their holiday here last week.
So when they were unable to leave yesterday they thought it was a bonus.
'We have been sitting here playing a fun board game and having food and drinks and making the most of it,' said Mr Morris.
To clear the backlog the airport stayed open until 11.59pm with the last flight arriving at about 11.50, almost three-and-a-half hours late.
