THE most talented Elizabeth College first team in a generation finally broke their GCA Championship duck for the season with a five-wicket win over Argylls at the College Field on Saturday.

With Will Thompson compiling a fine 88 and skipper Tim Ravenscroft cracking a rapid undefeated 74 the side gave Mike Kinder something to cheer in what is his final year of 27 as the college's cricket coach.

To chase down 257 is seldom straightforward and the blues deserve much credit for the way they approached this chase after failing previous recent examinations of their batting credentials under pressure.

They got home with six overs to spare, not just steered home by Ravenscroft but powered to victory with the skipper smashing the ball to all parts in a 49-ball stay that included 10 fours and a six.

There have been few more skilled batsmen than the Sussex bound player in more than 100 years of college cricket and he entertains with it.
