JOHN RICHARDSON was victorious last weekend in the second round of this year's Guernsey Powerboating season after a thrilling encounter.

His boat Nosferato was involved in a see-saw battle with Nauti Buoy, driven by Kevin Brehaut, throughout the 36-mile course around Fermain, with the lead often changing hands.

As GPA chairman Tony Le Page explained, it was a case of two contrasting styles.

'John kept catching up and overtaking on the inside, while Nauti Buoy was much quicker in the rough parts, so it was always extremely close,' he said.

Both boats were well clear of the rest of the field, with Frank Le Tissier's Havoc in third place.

The winner of last month's race, Jacques Vermeulen, had a disastrous time when he failed to finish the race after encountering trouble.
