IN WHAT proved to be a disastrous week for Guernsey's Commonwealth Games and British Isles singles representative, Matt Le Ber lost his grip on his coveted Elliott Singles title.

The defending champion came unstuck against multiple-winner Gary Pitschou (pictured) as two of the island's big guns met in the second round.

It would help prevent two of the favourites clashing at such an early stage of the competition and also limit the chance of damaging the current holder's confidence immediately prior to them competing for the British Isles title.
