MORE than 1,000 local school students are hoping to raise in excess of £20,000 for charity by walking around the west coast.

On 14, 15 and 16 July pupils from St Sampson's High, Le Murier, La Mare de Carteret High, and Les Beaucamps High will trek from the Imperial Hotel to Pembroke Bay.

They will be following in the footsteps of the Ladies' College, who completed the six-hour trek on 25 June.

The West Coast Challenge is the first multi-school walk and is organised by La Mare teacher Richard Sinkinson.

'It's a great way for kids to get out and about to see different parts of the island and to also raise some money for a noble cause,' he said.
