Sark and Alderney could choose the next Lt-Governor

ALDERNEY and Sark could be responsible for appointing Guernsey's next Lt-Governor.

This follows the Ministry of Justice announcing a fundamental change to the selection system, whereby the Crown Dependencies take on the responsibility for choosing their own.

The Bailiwick interview panel that will now be used is to comprise Sark's Seigneur, the President of Alderney's States and Guernsey's Bailiff, with an independent human resources professional sitting in to ensure proper process.

That means that the Bailiff could be out-voted in the decision-making, although Sark's and Alderney's populations are minuscule in comparison with Guernsey's.

However, secretary to the Lt-Governor Col Richard Graham was confident that problem would not materialise.
