Steady Dorey goes clear to snaffle open title

THE excellent ambience of the Guernsey Riding & Hunt Club's annual show struck a cord with visiting course designer John Laidlow on Saturday.

The amiable man from Durham has designed track for professional riders, but it was plain to see that he thoroughly enjoyed the task of doing likewise for the island's keen amateurs at the picturesque club grounds at Les Bordages in St Saviour's. He summed up the rapport between the competitors as follows:

'What is really obvious is that there is a really good camaraderie between the riders,' said Laidlow.

'You can see that they are all happy to encourage each other and it is nice to see that.'

Two days of jumping classes over the weekend completed the annual show, with the showing classes having taken place a week earlier.
