Le Rondin holds final World Cup celebration

FOOTBALLS were flying and vuvuzelas were blasting at Le Rondin School yesterday as pupils took part in a final celebration of the World Cup.

Monday signified the end of the school's football-themed topic and the children marked the occasion by showing off their flair for traditional African dancing as well as the beautiful game.

Some pupils performed the 'Gum Boot' dance for their peers before each class took part in a football tournament.

Year 6 student Cameron, 11, explained how African miners used the special routine in order to communicate.

'They weren't allowed to talk so they used to stamp and hit their boots and use the sound and rhythm to speak to each other,' he said.
