Marina pontoons to get a £1m. upgrade

NEW pontoons could soon be floating in the Town marinas as part of a £1m. programme.

Hundreds are being replaced and refurbished as part of a five-year scheme.

Harbour master Captain Peter Gill said some of the existing platforms were 20 years old or more, and it was hard to judge what state they were in.

'We don't know the life of a pontoon,' he said. 'We don't know how many we will have to replace. We will be lifting them out of the water to inspect all of them.'
