HUNDREDS of family and friends paid an emotional tribute to Sark house fire victim John Marquand yesterday.

People filled Vale Douzaine room and spilled outdoors to say goodbye to the man they called Big John.

Mr Marquand, 30, died in a blaze in a rented house, Jardin Louise, in Sark, where he was working at the time, on Sunday 1 August.

Yellow flowers spelling out Big John were placed at the front of the douzaine room and his coffin was brought in to the sound of a compilation of his favourite music, including Bob Dylan's Forever Young and Buffalo Springfield's For What It Is Worth.
